Frank Hurburt O'Hara was born in 1888, Berrien Springs, Michigan to Thomas O'Hara and Mary Barratt O'Hara. He graduated from Chaffee-Noble School of Detroit in 1909, and completed post-graduate work there in 1911. O'Hara received a Ph.B. from the University of Chicago in 1915. He was also awarded an L.L.D. by Shorter College in 1962. O'Hara became an instructor at the University of Chicago in 1917, and associate professor in 1924.
